Impacts and Outcomes

Economic & School Development

The income generated from the vegetable harvests and sales has led to further infrastructure development within both schools.

The expansion of the vegetable plots demonstrates the project’s scalability and long-term sustainability.

Education & Skill Development

Students, teachers, and community members have acquired valuable hands-on agricultural skills, including: Organic cultivation techniques, organic pesticide creation, automated solar-powered water systems, soil mixing and management and bookkeeping.

Recognition & Model School Status

Samaki Meanchey Primary School has been officially recognized by the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports (MoEYS) as a Model School. Model Schools serve as leading examples for other Cambodian state schools, showcasing best practices in areas such as teaching methods, school management, infrastructure, and community engagement.

This designation highlights the success and impact of the project. Through the Partnership School Project (PSP), the school has demonstrated:

  • Effective integration of hands-on learning through vegetable gardening
  • Financial self-sufficiency by generating income from organic produce sales
  • Community Involvement in training and development
  • Aesthetics and functional improvements to the school environment

As a Model School, Samamkie Meanchey may now serve as a benchmark for other Cambodian state schools, potentially receiving additional support, visits from education officials, and opportunities to share its methods with other institutions looking to adopt similar innovative programs.

Self-Sufficiency & Sustainability

Schools are now equipped with the knowledge and skills to:

  • Manage and maintain their vegetable gardens independently.
  • Experiment with new crops for diversification.
  • Generate continuous income from harvest sales, reinvesting profits into further school development and infrastructure improvements.

Both schools have achieved financial self-sufficiency, utilizing monthly harvests and sales revenue to support school operations and expansion efforts.

This initiative has not only improved school nutrition but has also empowered students and communities, promoting a culture of sustainability, innovation, and self-reliance in Cambodian state schools.
