Partnership School Project (PSP)

The Partnership School Project (PSP) is a two-year pilot initiative co-funded by Prime Road Alternative (Cambodia) Co., Ltd and The Mechai Foundation. In collaboration with the Population and Community Development Association (PDA), Thailand, this project aims to enhance Cambodian state schools by installing innovative vegetable gardens, transforming the schools into centers for social and economic development.

Two primary schools—Samaki Meanchey and Santhapeab Primary Schools, located in Ochrov District, Poipet, Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia—were selected as the first beneficiaries of this initiative. The project has enabled these schools to cultivate, consume, and sell their organic produce, fostering food security,  financial sustainability, and community engagement.

What sets these vegetable plots apart is their resource-efficient approach. They require:

Minimal land, minimal water, and minimal labour.

Each garden incorporates innovative farming methods, including:

  • Hydroponic stations
  • Still-water hydroponic systems
  • Microgreens cultivation
  • Tyre gardens
  • Bucket beansprouts
  • Mushroom huts
  • Raised Garden Beds

Beyond providing fresh produce, these gardens have become community learning hubs. The project conducts hands-on training sessions where students, teachers, and community members—including the elderly—actively engage in learning new and innovative gardening techniques. This intergenerational learning experience promotes community empowerment and ensures the long-term sustainability of the initiative.

Additionally, the project has led to the beautification and ‘greening’ of both schools. The gardens now serve as social spaces where students can interact, learn, and participate in agricultural activities, reinforcing the school’s role as a centre for environmental education and skill-building.
